Interviewer: Kimberly, thank you for joining us today. To start, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Kimberly Pifher: Thank you for having me! I’m Kimberly Pifher, an entrepreneur, producer, and CEO. I own and operate multiple businesses, including K Wind Productions, Inc., Malakai Productions, Inc., and Malakai Super Stores, Inc. My work spans across entertainment, retail, and technology, and I’m deeply passionate about creating meaningful content and innovative business ventures.
In the entertainment industry, my goal is to produce films and media that challenge societal norms, amplify diverse voices, and tell stories that resonate on a deep level. At the same time, with Malakai Super Stores, Inc., I aim to redefine retail by blending everyday essentials with high-end luxury. My career is driven by creativity, innovation, and a determination to push boundaries in every industry I’m involved in.
Interviewer: What was it like growing up, and what towns did you live in?
Kimberly Pifher: I was born in Mansfield, Ohio, but I spent my early years in Akron, Ohio, and later in California. My parents eventually moved to Flint, Michigan, where I lived from 1980 until 2012. After that, I relocated to Southern California and now live in Beverly Hills. Growing up in different places shaped my adaptability and gave me a broad perspective on life, which has helped me tremendously in business and entertainment.
Interviewer: What do you consider the highlights of your career so far?
Kimberly Pifher: There have been many exciting moments in my career, but some of the biggest highlights include launching and expanding my production companies, securing major business deals, and seeing my creative projects come to life. Owning Malakai Super Stores, Inc. and reviving its legacy has been a huge achievement, as well as expanding my work in film and media through Malakai Productions, Inc.
Another milestone is the development of a major studio site on my 10.26-acre property near the Rio Grande. This will be a future hub for independent filmmakers and a space where new talent can thrive. I also take great pride in the projects I’ve worked on, especially those that push boundaries and shed light on important societal issues.
Interviewer: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?
Kimberly Pifher: One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is navigating industries that often judge people based on appearances rather than expertise. I live in a power chair, and I’ve encountered situations where people focus on the chair rather than my skills, experience, and achievements. There’s a misconception that physical limitations equate to professional limitations, which is far from the truth.
To overcome this, I’ve had to work twice as hard to prove myself, letting my work speak for itself. I’ve built a strong reputation through persistence, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to my goals. I don’t let negativity or skepticism phase me—I stay focused, determined, and continue breaking barriers.
Interviewer: What projects are you currently working on?
Kimberly Pifher: I have several projects in development right now. One of the most exciting is a script my team and I are writing for an entertainment app, currently titled Amend (though the name isn’t final yet). The story follows a high school senior trying to find her true identity and the struggles she faces as a transgender female. The script takes on some of the hardest conversations surrounding trans rights, including issues in sports, public facilities, and even the political climate in Washington, D.C., where the GOP has been rolling back LGBTQ+ rights.
Beyond that, I’m continuing to develop new film and TV projects under Malakai Productions, Inc. and K Wind Productions, Inc. I’m also focused on expanding Malakai Super Stores, Inc., with plans to integrate new technology-driven shopping experiences, including an immersive VR shopping environment. And, of course, I’m working on the development of my future studio site near the Rio Grande, which will be a major step forward in creating an independent production hub.
Interviewer: Who has influenced you the most in your career, and how did they impact your journey?
Kimberly Pifher: Many people have influenced my journey, including Laurie LaMonaco, Laura Marchand, Tamara Speakes, and several others who have guided me along the way. But I’d also say that some of my biggest influences come from the movies I’ve watched over the years. Icons like Mel Gibson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Johnny Depp, and Will Smith have had a huge impact on me. Their ability to bring characters to life, push creative boundaries, and overcome obstacles in their careers has been incredibly inspiring.
Interviewer: What are your interests and hobbies outside of your career?
Kimberly Pifher: I have a wide range of interests. One of my favorite things to do is play PokerVR on the Oculus Quest 2 and 3. It’s not just a game—it’s a great place to meet people. I’ve made connections with celebrities, executives, and other industry professionals in that space. The funniest part is when people realize who I am—they often don’t believe it at first and call me names or accuse me of lying. But I have thick skin, and it doesn’t bother me at all.
Beyond that, I love spending time at the beach, traveling, and hanging out with my friends. I also cherish quiet moments at home with my four cats, reading a good book and unwinding.
Interviewer: What is the most valuable lesson or advice you’ve learned in your life or career?
Kimberly Pifher: The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is to never let others define your worth or dictate your path. People will always have opinions, but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is what you believe about yourself and the work you put in. Success isn’t about luck—it’s about persistence, resilience, and refusing to give up when things get tough. Stay true to yourself, keep pushing forward, and never let anyone tell you what you can or can’t achieve.
